Timing is everything when waging war “by way of deception,” the motto that has long guided Israeli war-planners. Whenever Israel’s geopolitical goals are threatened, chaos is assured. In national security terminology, the January 24 bombing at Moscow’s busiest airport was “out of theater repositioning.”
The SAME ICTS that on 9/11 helped those MOSSAD agents, made up to look like Arabs, onto several flights. The SAME ICTS that let the 'Shoe Bomber,' Richard Reid board. The SAME ICTS that sent a 'sharp-dressed man' to help out the Christmas day 'underwear bomber' board a flight, with no money and NO PASSPORT. Surely this can't be related to Russia getting ready to recognize a Palestinian state, could it?

The Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee on Wednesday made no policy changes, holding its key interest rate at historic low range of 0% to 0.25% and continuing on course with its $600 billion program of Treasury purchases. The decisions were widely expected.
The house that Jordan Sanford now calls home sits on a barren hilltop near Eagle Mountain, in a secluded, partially developed subdivision. Inside, there are tall ceilings and polished wood floors, and the natural light pours in from the windows. It's a big improvement from the tent Sanford called home two years ago while deployed in Iraq.
As comfortable as Sanford, 22, feels in his new home, it isn't his--he shares it with up to eight other war veterans. Otherwise known as the Ark of Eagle Mountain, it is a transitional facility for soldiers who have come home from war only to find themselves without a place to live.
Angry Egyptian demonstrators being targeted with water cannon retaliated by turning one of the powerful hoses back onto the security forces.
Egyptian police were attempting to disperse the crowds protesting against the 30-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak and the country's grinding poverty in the centre of Cairo.
But the crowd fought back. It was a small victory against the security forces who have also used rubber bullets, batons and tear gas to try to control the protesters.
I have been summoned to appear before a federal grand jury in Chicago on Jan. 25. But I will not testify, even at the risk of being put in jail for contempt of court, because I believe that our most fundamental rights as citizens are at stake.
The activists who have been ensnared in this fishing net work with different groups to end the U.S. wars and occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan, to end U.S. military aid for Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land, and to end U.S. military aid to Colombia, which has a shocking record of repression and human rights abuses. All of us have publicly and peacefully dedicated our lives to social justice and advocating for more just and less deadly U.S. foreign policy.

For anyone who might have thought General Stanley McChrystal and Barack Obama no longer saw eye to eye, it might surprise them to read McChrystal’s recent article, “ Step Up For Your Country,” published in the January 31 issue of Newsweek. For all the hype having to do with McChrystal being relieved of command, it seems the General and the President have more in common than the average television watcher might think. That is, at least when it comes to implementing civilian labor programs along the lines of Joseph Stalin or Mao...
The Egyptian authorities outlawed public gatherings and said any protesters would face “immediate” arrest on Wednesday, a day after tens of thousands of people marched in opposition to the nearly 30-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak.
After Tiananmen, the Communist Party in China unveiled the Student Information System, whose nominal goals were to improve the quality of college and university teaching and increase student involvement in education. “In practice, however, the SIS's principal objective is to monitor and control teachers and students,” says a new CIA report highlighted by Steve Aftergood on his Secrecy blog at FAS.

A mock city roughly the size of downtown San Diego has risen in a remote Southern California desert to train military forces to fight in urban environments.
The $170 million urban training center was unveiled Tuesday at the Twentynine Palms military base, 170 miles northeast of San Diego. The 1,560-building facility will allow troops to practice and refine skills that can be used around the world, the Marine Corps said.

The unemployment rate rose in 20 states last month as employers in most states shed jobs.
The Labor Department says the unemployment rate rose in 20 states and fell in 15. It was unchanged in another 15 states. That's nearly the same as in November, when the rate rose in 21 states, fell in 15 and was the same in 14.
The report is evidence that the job market is barely improving even as the economy grows. Most economists expect hiring to pick up this year, although the unemployment rate will likely remain high.
The ledger did not appear to be adding up Tuesday night when President Barack Obama urged more spending on one hand and a spending freeze on the other.
George Osborne’s austerity Budget will push the UK back into recession unless the Government eases up on spending cuts, billionaire investor George Soros has warned.
The judge ruled they can only foreclose with a judges order, which is only for judicial state foreclosures. The non-judicial states do not need court orders for foreclosing, the companies can simply foreclose after advertising the foreclosure for 4 weeks.
I’m an advocate of a two-state solution. I believe that non-violent opposition to the Occupation is gaining traction and has shown itself to be powerful. I would like to believe that a boycott movement could be directed against the Occupation without at the same time shunning the concept of two states.
The US Justice Department wants Internet service providers and cell phone companies to be required to hold on to records for longer to help with criminal prosecutions.
"Data retention is fundamental to the department's work in investigating and prosecuting almost every type of crime," US deputy assistant attorney general Jason Weinstein told a congressional subcommittee on Tuesday.

Palestinians around the world and all their supporters watched in shock, but not total surprise as secret documents, “The Palestine Papers”, detailing carefully the years of so called peace negotiations were released by the news network Al-Jazeera during the last few days. While Palestinians are struggling to win back their rights to their homes and lands, some in the unelected leadership of the Palestinian Authority (PA) were making offers to give away these rights.
The president called this time "our generation's Sputnik moment."
"Half a century ago, when the Soviets beat us into space with the launch of a satellite called Sputnik¸ we had no idea how we'd beat them to the moon..." Obama said. "But after investing in better research and education, we didn't just surpass the Soviets; we unleashed a wave of innovation that created new industries and millions of new jobs."

During his third State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Barack Obama cracked a joke about TSA pat-downs – and earned an immediate rebuke from the ACLU.
I’m developing a new litmus test to go with the 9/11 denial and Assange supporting litmus tests and that’s the, ‘you haven’t gone far enough litmus test’. See, within certain parameters you can say almost anything, as long as you don’t point the finger at the right people. Once you actually, correctly identify the cause of the condition you are writing or talking about, things change.

The court-appointed guardian of an institutionalized 85-year-old woman with Alzheimer's dementia claims New York Life Insurance salesmen took advantage of the chronically ill woman and used elaborate schemes, including an arranged marriage, to sell her 20 life insurance policies for $600,000. And, the trustee adds, New York Life refuses to investigate the suspicious transactions, for which "the primary motivation" was "commissions and premiums."
The citizens of the United States need to know that there is not a shred of decency, honesty, or Constitutional rights in our federal courts. Corruption has consumed the federal court system, and we now live in a police state. Judges are free to do absolutely anything they want. Our laws are meaningless. Your life savings can be stolen by a federal judge, and they have no risk in violating every law in the books.

McGonagle also couldn’t let go. He refused to throw out notes that detailed with clinical precision how each of his men died: “Blast injury to the brain,” “Multiple bullet and shrapnel wounds,” “Basal skull fracture.” He also clung to copies of the letters he wrote to the wives and parents of the dead, letters he wept over as he composed them in a hotel room in Malta days after the attack.
"It is necessary to fight mercilessly with terrorism and extremism," Putin said.
The premier also said the preliminary information showed the Domodedovo blast was not linked to Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Chechnya.
What is the state of the union? You certainly couldn’t tell from that platitudinous hogwash that the president dished out Tuesday evening. I had expected Barack Obama to be his eloquent self, appealing to our better nature, but instead he was mealy-mouthed in avoiding the tough choices that a leader should delineate in a time of trouble. He embraced clean air and a faster Internet while ignoring the depth of our economic pain and the Wall Street scoundrels who were responsible—understandably so, since they so prominently populate the highest reaches of his administration. He had the effrontery to condemn “a parade of lobbyists” for rigging government after he appointed the top Washington representative of JPMorgan Chase to be his new chief of staff.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai inaugurated parliament on Wednesday, ending weeks of political infighting, but took a dig at the West saying "foreign interference" had been a serious problem.

The Commerce Department says sales for all of 2010 totaled 321,000, a drop of 14.4 percent from the 375,000 homes sold in 2009. It was the fifth consecutive year that sales have declined after hitting record highs for the five previous years when the housing market was booming.
Economists say it could be years before sales hit a healthy rate of 600,000 units a year.
We the undersigned share with nearly two-thirds of our fellow Americans the conviction that our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq should be ended and that overall military spending should be dramatically reduced. This has been our position for years and will continue to be, and we take it seriously. We vow not to support President Barack Obama for renomination for another term in office, and to actively seek to impede his war policies unless and until he reverses them.
Karp says the recession has forced many people to stay put because they are unable to sell their homes, cannot find jobs or are unwilling to relocate for work if it means sacrificing a partner's stable position. The slowdown makes the question of who's moving and why even more significant than in years past. Webmaster's Commentary:
A bunch of Libertarians (along with Democrats and Republicans) were invited by John Stossel’s show on FoxBusiness , to watch the State of the Union Message, and give reactions last night. It was a nice way to make it fun to endure the torture of listening for 75 minutes or so to a President who seems to be living in some alternate reality.

At a press conference, subpoenaed AWC and FRSO member Jess Sundin outlined how Sullivan had become involved during preparations for the legally permitted demonstrations at the 2008 Republican National Convention held in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sullivan worked her way up, chairing meetings, giving public speeches, and assisting with bookkeeping, in the process gaining access to membership lists and “unimpeded access to our financial records,” said Sundin.
“On September 24th, federal agents burst into our homes and turned our lives upside down,” said Sundin of the raids. At AWC offices in Minneapolis, FBI agents used the key that had been entrusted to Sullivan to enter, “seizing our computers, financial records and other materials.”

Robert Shiller Argues That Rising Inequality In The US Was A Major Cause Of The Recent Crisis, And Little Is Being Done To Address It
The interviewer asks:
So you feel inequality is central to what has gone on and that we really need to address that?
Shiller responds:
Yes – and there is very little concrete talk about addressing it. It’s a very difficult problem. You might think that in a system of majority voting, the middle class and the poor would dominate and would prevent this kind of inequality from developing. But it hasn’t been that way – it’s been even less so that way lately, especially in the US.

The US has described an Israeli probe into a raid on the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla aid convoy that killed nine Turkish activists as a "credible and impartial" effort. The praise came after an Israeli investigation panel declared Tel Aviv's military attack on the Freedom Flotilla as "legal" under international law, Israeli daily Ha'aretz reported.
The panel also claimed that the Israeli soldiers who took part in the killing of the nine activists acted in self-defense.

The new chief of Israel's military spy agency says sanctions against Iran's nuclear energy program have not been working.
Israel's military spy agency chief Brigadier General Aviv Kochavi made the comment on Tuesday in his first briefing to parliament's foreign affairs and defense committee since taking up the role in November, AFP reported.
Kochavi also expressed disagreement with the US assessment that sanctions have been hurting the Islamic Republic. He stated that Iran is not working on the production of nuclear weapons, but added that the Islamic Republic could produce bombs within years — an allegation that Tehran has always denied.
