In one case handled by Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, a homeowner refinanced her house in 2005 but almost immediately got into trouble, going into default in December of that year. The five-year statute of limitations for criminally prosecuting the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officials who destroyed videos depicting torture during interrogations expired Monday with no charges being filed. The lapsing of the case followed a nearly three-year-long investigation by a special prosecutor.
Before their destruction, government officials were ordered by courts to preserve all records of so-called "enhanced interrogations." Both before and after the videos were destroyed, officials lied repeatedly about the recordings’ existence.
Monday’s non-action is the latest by the Obama administration to cover up Bush era war crimes.

What I found interesting on this place is that two buyers lost this home through foreclosure. The person that bought this place in 2002 had a NOD filed in July of 2005. By October 2005 the place was scheduled for foreclosure. This is how quickly things move in a bubble market since the bank knew the seller could sell and make a profit. Keep in mind that the people had already had issues making payments but were able to unload the home for $2,300,000. So think about how many people got saved like this during the bubble years. The initial owner was unable to make the payment at $1,300,000 yet they turned close to a $1 million profit even though they were in default!
Disturbing signs are ominous. On November 8, Israel demolished and ransacked a Negev Bedouin Arab mosque in Rahat, removing it for Jewish development. Professor Yousef Salamah called it "a criminal act," done on the pretext that it was unlicensed. "These are not new acts but were preceded by many incidents and attacks, when the Israeli authorities demolished dozens of mosques inside Israel, turning some into museums, barns, restaurants, synagogues and parking lots."

One might think that after the terrible experiences Jewish people had experienced at the hands of the Nazis, that their descendants in Israel would be poster children for justice, human rights, and human dignity for all; sadly, just the absolute opposite appears to be happening here.
The U.S. military has destroyed hundreds of Afghan civilian homes, farm houses, walls, trees and plowed through fields and buildings using explosives and bulldozers in war-torn Zhari district, a practice that has begun to anger Afghan villagers.
To pay for the damage, the U.S. military here is giving Afghans compensation cards for the damaged property. Villagers take the cards to the Afghan government's district center at Camp Wilson, the main American base here. U.S. commanders said the system forces locals to work with their government — which is the overall goal of the operation.

Even if compensation actually gets to the people whose properties have been destroyed, this "scorched earth" policy will be perceived (and justly) as revenge, complete with all the modern enhancements, against local Afghanis for not cooperating with the US/NATO occupation.
Soldiers tear gassed a girls elementary school in Beit Ommar this morning following a student demonstration commemorating the anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death. Three hundred students ages 7 to 15 marched from the Beit Ommar il-Assasiyya boys school to the checkpoint at the entrance of the village waving Palestinian flags and chanting against the occupation. Several students gave speeches in memory of Yasser Arafat.

Six Israeli warplanes have penetrated the Lebanese airspace again and flew over parts of the country in flagrant violation of a UN Security Council resolution.
The Israeli aircrafts crossed into Lebanese airspace over the southern border village of Kfar Kila at 9:30 a.m. local time (0630 GMT) on Tuesday and conducted several unwarranted flights above southern Lebanon as well as the capital Beirut, a Press TV correspondent in Beirut cited a statement released by the Lebanese military.
Israel violates Lebanon's airspace on an almost daily basis, claiming they serve surveillance purposes.

The relevant information, the information that you need to know, is that the level of payroll employment today is below the level of 10 years ago. A smaller number of Americans are employed right now than were employed a decade ago.
Think about what that means. We have had a decade of work force growth from youngsters reaching working age and from immigration, legal and illegal, but there are fewer jobs available to accommodate a decade of work force entrants than before the decade began.

U.S. weaponry, ammunition and war supplies stored in Israel will reach a record $1.2 billion by 2012 under legislation aimed at increasing operational readiness of U.S. forces and their allies in high-threat areas.
On Nov. 3, the Fed announced it will create 600 billion new dollars over the next eight months and use the money to buy U.S. government bonds. The media has dubbed this latest round of easing “Quantitative Easing 2,” but it is really the third such massive round of money creation, and this time, it may prove especially dangerous for the world economy.
The U.S. government is to move an additional $400 million worth of military equipment to emergency storage in Israel over the next two years.
The equipment, which includes so-called smart bombs, will stand at Israel's disposal in an emergency.
The U.S. Congress approved the hike last month, which will bring the value of American military equipment stockpiled in Israel to $1.2 billion by 2012.

One has to wonder just what this equipment will be used for.
That figure 1.2 billion dollars keeps rattling around in my head, and I can imagine how that might be used to shore up crumbling infrastructure here at home.
But the final insult to American taxpayers here is that, because Israel does have nuclear weapons, but refuses to be a signatory to the NNPT, every cent in aid given to Israel since the passage of the Symington Amendment is absolutely illegal under US law; of course, US law isn't something that gets in the way of aid to Israel, ever.
Secretary Clinton on Wednesday ruled out any other country’s involvement in talks between Iran and the P5+1 -- comprised of the U.S., UK, France, Germany, Russia and China -- even as Iran proposes to hold the next round of negotiations in Turkey, a country that, along with Brazil, tried to strike a nuke deal with Tehran earlier this year.
“It is a P-5 plus one meeting with the Iranians,” Clinton told reporters. “At this moment, the offer of discussions with the Iranians is in that forum, and that is the appropriate venue for any discussion on any issue to occur.”

Translation: in this dissing of Turkey and Brazil for their attempts to make a genuine breakthrough here, Clinton is making it clear that she wants to see this talks fail.
Should these talks fail, with all the sabre-rattling the US has done at Iran, the next thing we will see is the ramp up to military confrontation.
But if Obama thinks such a confrontation will make him look "butch" for the American voters for the 2010 election, and that it will deflect the focus away from the tremendous economic pain the American people have been suffering, he is dead wrong: so are the Republicans who might support such a conflict.
This would be one of the worst decisions Obama could possibly make in a presidency chock-full of really bad decisions.

What we've been doing, Mr. Chairman, in all reality, is taken a hundred billion out of the Social Security Trust Fund, transferring it over to the spending column, and spending it. Our friends to the left here are getting their tax cuts, we getting our spending increases, and hollering surplus, surplus, and balanced budget, and balanced budget plans when we continue to spend a hundred billion more than we take in.

Today's news reports efforts by the government and the very rich to drastically cut social security benefits. Although the media may react in shock as if this is a new and unexpected development, the fact is that WRH reported this trend back in 1998 when it became obvious that the Clinton administration was looting the cash set-aside for the baby boomer retirements to manufacture its phony budget surplus. Of course, the Clinton administration called these cash transfers "loans", but clearly if the government was borrowing from the people during what were hailed as economic boom times, there was never going to be a situation in which the government could redeem those "loans", and here we are with the US Government telling the American workers that after a life time of paying social security taxes, the benefits "must" be cut, because after all we had to buy Israel a whole lot of F-35s and those wars killing the people Israel does not like cost a lot of cash, and of course, it's taking trillions of dollars to keep the government's pals on Wall Street out of jail!
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is due today to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, amid continuing difficulties in the Middle East peace process over Israeli settlement building in the West Bank.
Clinton, who is due to meet with Netanyahu in New York City, on November 10 said Israel's plan to proceed with more settlement building was counterproductive to peace negotiations -- but said she believes a deal with the Palestinians is still possible.

The fact that Netanyahu is meeting with Clinton, and not Obama, has infinitely less to do with the situation with the Palestinians than looking at what Clinton might be able to deliver to him geopolitically in the next two years of a very probable one-term presidency.

Russia will urge Group of 20 policy makers to remove barriers to long-term investment in developed countries to help emerging economies counter capital inflows as the U.S. pumps $600 billion into its economy.
The proposal would offset the money flooding into emerging markets by creating an “oncoming flow” of capital to industrialized nations, said Arkady Dvorkovich, senior economic adviser to President Dmitry Medvedev, at a Moscow briefing before the G-20 summit, which begins today in Seoul.
“Large-scale, cross-border investments can serve exactly to stabilize the situation,” Dvorkovich said. “They will, in effect, replace investments into sovereign securities of the developed countries and help regulate the imbalances that appear as a result of high deficits and surpluses.”

TSA employee reportedly admitted pat-down involving touching of genitals meant to intimidate people into using body scanners
As public anger grows over the TSA's body scanners and intrusive new airport pat-down procedure, a Web site is urging travelers to "opt out" from the body scanners and instead choose to have a pat-down in public view, so that everyone can "see for themselves how the government treats law-abiding citizens."
OptOutDay.com declares November 24 to be the day when air travelers should refuse to submit to a full body scan and choose the enhanced pat-down -- an option many travelers have described as little short of a molestation.
