DHS Anti-Child Pornography Operation Accidentally Shuts Down 84,000 Sites

This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! The Department of Homeland Security is a rogue government agency that believes it operates above the Constitution. We CANNOT let this continue.

Every single owner of the 84,000 sites that were shut down should file a lawsuit immediately. DHS MUST be help accountable for their actions or our republic will be lost forever.

In an effort to crack down on child pornography, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the seizure of 10 domains as a part of a new initiative called “Operation Protect Our Children” but they also shut down 84,000 seemingly innocent sites in the process.

Egypt's Workers Revolt; This isn't about Mubarak

"After Mahalla in 2008, the first weaknesses in the regime appeared," says Gamal Eid of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information. "Nothing was the same in Egypt after that." ("Egypt's Cauldron of Revolt", Anand Gopal, Foreign Policy)

Compare this story to the narrative that appears in the US media, that the revolution was triggered by Twitter-happy "twenty somethings" text messaging their friends while buzzing around Cairo. It's utter nonsense. This revolution has working class roots, which is why the establishment press refuses to explain what's really going on. Any talk about "class" is Verboten in US media because it tends to reflect poorly on the robber barons who created the greatest extremes in inequality in the history of the world.

"I have never been prouder of our movement than I am at this moment," shouted Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Phil Neuenfeldt, as he surveyed the crowds of union members and their supporters that surged around the state Capitol and into the streets of Madison Wednesday, literally closing the downtown as tens of thousands of Wisconsinites protested their Republican governor’s attempt to strip public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights.

US ALREADY TRYING TO BRIBE NEW EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT

The United States gave Egypt $150 million in crucial economic assistance on Thursday to help the key US ally transition towards democracy following the overthrow of longtime president Hosni Mubarak.

on Paul Is A Vicious Anti-Semite and Anti-American and Conservatives Need To Wash Their Hands of Him

Long ago Bill Buckley drummed the anti-Semites out of the conservative movement, and the movement thrived as a result. But the Jew-haters have returned. For years the Texas crackpot, Ron Paul, has been attacking America and Israel as imperialist powers — the Great Satan and the Little Satan, and calling for America’s retreat from the battle against our totalitarian enemies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wow! From this screed it is obvious that the Israel-firsters are blind-panic terrified-out-of-their-minds crap-their-britches scared of Ron Paul!

Good reason to vote for him!

No government can serve two masters. A government that serves Israel cannot serve the American people. A friend of Israel is no friend of America.

America needs leaders who will put America first, second, and third.

Panel Demolishes Official 9/11 Story While Proposing State Initiatives for Justice

Architect Richard Gage changed the opinions of two dozen (24 of 25) individuals in the audience that previously believed the official 9/11 Commission story after presenting his evidence at the Conscious Life Expo in Los Angeles.

The other panelists included Senator Mike Gravel, Joseph Culp (son of late actor, Robert Culp), writer Thomas Sawyer, and local activist Kathleen Rosenblatt. Richard Gage presented startling evidence that all three buildings were brought down by controlled demolition.

Republicans seek to quash 'net neutrality' rules

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Republican members of the US Senate and House of Representatives are seeking to quash rules approved by US telecom regulators designed to ensure an open Internet. The five-member Federal Communications Commission (FCC), in a vote split on party lines, agreed in December to the rules aimed at safeguarding "network neutrality," the principle that lawful Web traffic should be treated equally.

US slaps sanctions on Iran's Bank Refah

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States imposed sanctions Thursday on Iran's Bank Refah for its ties with the country's proscribed weapons programs.

The US Treasury Department accused Bank Refah of providing financial services to the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) and the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA).

In Wisconsin Fight, Officials Search Capitol for Democrats

Wisconsin state officials began searching for 14 missing state senate Democrats who failed to show up at a floor session at the capitol in protest of Republican Gov. Scott Walker's budget bill, which continued to draw massive protests from public-employee union members on Thursday.

The state senate's sergeant at arms searched the Democrats' offices in the capitol building as a first step in locating them, according to a staff member of Republican senate leader Scott Fitzgerald. The staff member said that because of all the union protesters crowding into the capitol, the search of offices was slower than it would have been normally.

"Like Cairo Moved To Madison"

PALESTINE CAN FINALLY BREATHE EASIER

In a nutshell, Israel wants to be left alone with the Palestinians, no matter what it does to them, without the Egyptians raising eyebrows. But is this possible under the new regime in Cairo?

Webmaster's Commentary:

And therein may lie the reason for this kerfuffle over Iranian ships in the Suez canal, as a pretext for Israel to reconquer the Sinai up to the canal itself, to share in the revenue from the canal and to continue to starve the Gazans until they surrender their elected government and accept puppet rule through Abbas.

13,000 Workers in the Capitol of Wisconsin, Schools Shut Down, Dems “Missing”

At least 10,000 employees and supporters rallied Wednesday in Madison in opposition to legislation supported by Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Protesters pack the state Capitol

47 Statistics That Indicate That Economic Stress Points In 2011 Could Be Setting The Stage For A Global Economic Meltdown In 2012

Is the world approaching a devastating global economic meltdown? Right now there are a large number of factors that are creating economic stress points all over the globe. All of the crazy money printing that the Federal Reserve and other central banks have been doing is putting inflationary pressure on agricultural commodities, oil and precious metals. Massive floods, horrific droughts and extreme weather patterns all over the globe are ruining crops and creating food shortages. Some nations are now actually hoarding food, and in other nations rising prices have sparked food riots. The price of oil has been moving back towards $100 a barrel, and if it stays at a high level for an extended period of time that is going to have very serious consequences for the global economy. In addition, the growing sovereign debt crisis could erupt again at any time. Half a dozen nations in Europe are on the verge of insolvency, Japan's national debt is now well over 200 percent of GDP, and the global financial system is growing increasingly concerned about the exploding national debt of the United States. The truth is that the entire world financial system is a house of cards balanced on a razor's edge and it could come down at any time.

While Clinton Calls for Free Speech, Ray McGovern is Arrested and Abused Before Her Eyes for Exercising Free Speech

On Tuesday, February 15th Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a speech on the importance of Freedom of Speech in the Internet age. She focused her attention on foreign countries and chided them for curtailing the speech of their citizens.

During that speech Ray McGovern, a veteran who also served for 27 years as a CIA analyst, exercised his freedom of speech by standing and silently turning his back on Secretary Clinton. He was protesting the ongoing wars, the treatment of Bradley Manning and the militarism of U.S. foreign policy. He did not shout at the Secretary of State or interrupt her speech. He merely stood in silence. See the video here of the incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-Vy8fFnz18

On Tuesday, as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke on issues of free speech at George Washington University, 71-year-old former CIA analyst Ray McGovern was assaulted, dragged from the room and double handcuffed causing profuse bleeding. What had he done to elicit this treatment? He stood in "silent witness."

Important New Information on Aafia Siddiqui's Case

On September 23 in federal court, US District Court Judge Richard Berman sentenced her to 86 years in prison - a gross miscarriage of justice, compounding her abduction, imprisonment, torture, prosecution, and conviction on bogus charges.

An innocent abused woman, she's currently imprisoned in solitary confinement at FMC Carswell, Federal Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX where her mental and physical health deteriorates.

Appealing her conviction, Sharp said many excellent issues warrant it going forward, mostly because she's innocent of all charges. Unlike contradictory uncorroborated testimonies against her, she's never changed her account of what happened. Believe it. It's true, outrageous, and why essential to remedy by freeing and sending her home.

Webmaster's Commentary: As we have known from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, torture only gets the pre-established outcome the torturers want to hear, but never the truth.

What has happened to Aafia Siddiqui was a complete travesty, and a monumental embarrassment to American jurisprudence.

The reason Siddiqui is in solitary confinement at a US prison medical facility is that the US government never wants what was actually done to this woman to get out.

Restoring Economic Sovereignty: The Push for State-owned Banks

While Wall Street is reporting record profits, local banks are floundering, credit for small businesses and consumers remains tight, and local governments are teetering on bankruptcy. There is even talk of allowing state governments to file for bankruptcy, something current legislation forbids. The federal government and Federal Reserve have managed to find trillions of dollars to prop up the Wall Street banks that precipitated the credit crisis, but they have not extended this largesse to the taxpayers and local governments that have been forced to pick up the tab.

There are so many possible plots and so many possible players that it is impossible to predict ‘where or when’ but if you hum a few bars we might at least be in the mood... oops, there was an inadvertent second song title all by itself. I’d better rein myself in or I could do this whole post as a catalogue of song hits.

Bartering, Inflation, and Growing a Garden

Thanks to “just in time” inventory practices; America has an average of just three days of food on its grocery shelves. Inventories are kept extremely well managed and tight thanks to the amazing efficiency of modern-day transportation and manufacturing systems. Depending on your age, you might remember when grocery stores had excess stock and inventory in the “back room.” Those days are long gone. If the “just in time” trucks stop rolling for any reason, your local grocery store will be empty within days, and that’s even in good times!

If a disaster were to strike – natural or manmade – you could expect those shelves to be bare within hours. The recent blizzards and snowstorms blanketing the United States are a perfect example of why it pays to be prepared.

Webmaster's Commentary: The other issue to consider is if you or your loved ones are taking medications which are critical to health, to have some of those stored as well.

How To Fake An Economic Recovery

The issue is, how do you convince the general public that all is well until you are ready to unleash hyperinflation and fiscal Armageddon? How do you make them believe with all their hearts that they are not in the midst of a debt meltdown and the end of their financial sovereignty, but basking in a full-on economic recovery?!

You can’t stop wealth destruction now that the avalanche has been set in motion. You can’t stop inflation and dollar devaluation (nor would you want to. Hey, you’re evil incarnate, remember?). Zionist Suez: Iran Ships Blocked

Probably, Netanyahu contacted Omar Suleiman in panic, asking for the blocking of the Iranian ships. Israel sees that as the possible opening of a new front, and this is a major concern. The Israeli marine front is relatively calm, since Syria and Lebanon have small navies and Egypt is still an ally (until when?). If Iran manages to place ships in the Mediterranean, the strategic situation changes dramatically.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem is that if Iran really wanted a confrontation with Israel (these two ships appear to be training vessels), they could sail around the horn of Africa and refuel in their new ally Turkey.

The growing perception is that Israel's government is in a panic and over-reacting to everything right now, which given Israel's unrestrained nuclear arsenal and history of belligerence, is a danger sign.

One thing is clear. Together with the attack on the aid flotilla in May of last year, Israel's own view is that the entire Mediterranean is already Israeli territory. I suspect the blocking of the Iranian ships was just to reassure themselves they could do it.

Globalists Plan To Restrict Access To Lethal Means For Vets

As if trumped up wars, invasions, and mass genocide in the middle east is not enough to chew on, we can not forget about the stress that the patriotic men and women of our armed forces have endured.

One disturbing side effect of war is the military suicide rate. In 2008 the Marines and Army had the highest rates at 18.5% -19.5%, that’s a staggering 18,500 -19,000 suicides per 100,000 enlisted as out lined in the newly released Rand Corp. Document entitled “The War Within”.

'Deposed Tunisian president is in a coma'

French daily reports that Ben Ali had a stroke, is comatose in a special hospital for Saudi princes in "worrying" condition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Not even trying to hide what they are doing. US puppets, upon being fired by the people, fake their own death so they can retire to the Caymans and spend their ill-gotten wealth without worrying about anyone following them. No doubt both Mubarak and Ben Ali are already playing canasta with Ken Lay.

Where’s the American Outrage against U.S. Support of Dictatorships?

So, the U.S. government supports the brutal dictatorships that oppress their own people, which inspires anger and rage not only against the dictatorship but also against the United States, which the U.S. government then uses as a justification for its support of the dictatorship. How’s that for empire logic? And when that anger and hatred materializes in terrorist retaliation against the United States, U.S. officials then use that to justify the same type of anti-terrorist measures against the American people that are employed in the brutal dictatorships that they’re supporting.

UPDATE: CBS Senior Reporter Lara Logan Was Not Raped

"The US network said earlier, a senior CBS correspondent is recovering in hospital in the US after she was beaten and sexually assaulted by a mob while covering the Egyptian protests.

According to a Wall Street Journal source, Logan, 39, who is mother to two young children, was not raped.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You know, I got a lot of really shitty emails screaming obscenities at me for daring to suggest that the Lara Logan rape story, like that of Jessica Lynch, was a hoax. In what appears to be a hangover from the 1990s rape-hysteria, I was told in no uncertain terms that women who scream rape must ALWAYS be assumed to be telling the truth and never, ever, to allow doubt to cloud the matter, for after all, rape is such a serious crime that even innocence should not be a defense.

Well, The Jessica Lynch story was a hoax. And so was Logan's.
So, to all those who defended Miss Pureheart Logan against the evil patriarchal Michael Rivero, I am blowing a very wet raspberry through your computer monitor at you.

Thousands of Police Attack Growing Protests in Yemeni Capital

As the Egypt-style publc protests continue to grow in Yemen, the government of Ali Abdullah Saleh has continued, through threats and censorship efforts to play the role of the brutal dictatorship to a tee.

Yemen has been facing growing protests across the nation, and has also sparked a new round of rallies in South Yemen calling for secession from the nation. The rest of the nation is, at the moment, rallying for the ouster of Saleh and democratic reforms.

Webmaster's Commentary: You don't think that the US government might be willing to accept the very real possibility that when it supports a tinpot dictator in the name of "stability" who suppresses his people, that ultimately those people are going to rise up in revolt, do you?!?

Of course not: that would be logical!

Threats of Revolt in Pakistan Over Possible ‘Pardon’ of US Official

With US officials angrily demanding the release of consulate employee Raymond Davis from a Lahore prison from the very start, it seemed inevitable that the Zardari government would eventually cave to the pressure and release him, either on grounds of “diplomatic immunity” or as a blanket pardon for the two murders he is accused of. Indeed, it was so assumed that this would be the case that the widow of one of the slain took her own life in protest before any announcement was even made.

But even as Prime Minister Gilani hinted at the prospect of that pardon, there is a growing movement threatening an Egypt-style revolt against the government if they dare to do so.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Pakistani government has been put in a very precarious position on this issue by the US's demands.

That someone in the US's military or civilian chain of command didn't potentially see this coming as the result of demands for Davis' release, or arrogantly assumed the public reaction was unimportant, just makes one shake one's head in total astonishment.

Already staggering from the consequences of massive floods last year, unrest, corruption, and justifiable anger on the part of the Pakistani people at their government being unwilling and/or unable to meet their needs, the Pakistani people could well topple this nuclear armed regime.

The US military cannot come in and squelch such a revolt; what we would most likely see is another military coup, and a governmental structure unlikely to be sympathetic to the US's alleged "war on terror"; additionally. it may be thoroughly unwilling to be bought off to "look the other way" as the US consistently murders innocent civilians.

The US's demand for Davis' release may well be the tipping point for the current Pakistani government, and in term of possible unintended consequences, the US government has no one to thank but itself for this ham-fisted approach.

Israeli FM Threatens War With Iran Over Suez Warship Claim

Barak: IDF soldiers may be called into Lebanon in the future

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday that Israel Defense Forces may be called into Lebanon in the future, during his first military tour with new IDF Chief Benny Gantz along the northern border.

"Hezbollah remembers the heavy beating they suffered from us in 2006, but it is not forever, and you may be called to enter again," Barak told the IDF soldiers, adding that "we must be prepared for every test."

Webmaster's Commentary: Translation: Israel is looking for some excuse as the "justification" for the reinvasion of Lebanon, and this time, they will go all the way to the Litani River, because they are so desperately in need of the water.

Israel has been overflying Lebanon, despite Lebanese objections at the UN for quite some time now. It is very possible that there will be some kind of "false flag", courtesy of the IDF and/or Mossad, to launch such a military strike, perhaps in the very near future: that's what Barak's remarks are telegraphing very loudly.

Netanyahu on Egypt: Israel Must ‘Prepare for Worst’

Israeli leaders have made it clear they oppose elections in Egypt on general principle, and believe that an elected government would end the 1979 peace deal. This does not, of course, mean that a war would break out, but a number of Egyptians are unhappy with restrictions the deal places on travel in Sinai, and well as obliging them to comply with the Gaza blockade.

Webmaster's Commentary: One has to wonder: on what basis Israeli officials believe that an elected government in Egypt would end the peace deal?!?

The last thing Egypt needs right now is any kind of military confrontation with any of its neighbors. However, Israeli leadership may see this as a time to start a war with Egypt, if the elected government is not to their liking.

234 House Republicans (99%) vote against bill that says "When investigating American citizens, the government must comply with the Constitution.."

As Talks Stall with Iran, US Steps Up Propaganda War

Karim Sadjadpour, an Iran expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, says that the administration was more inhibited when protests broke out following Iran’s disputed 2009 presidential elections because "Obama still held out hope of reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran. Today I think the White House has come to the conclusion that they can’t reach a modus vivendi with a regime that seemingly needs them as an adversary."

In a series of interviews on Monday – as Iranian protesters returned to the streets of major Iranian cities en masse for the first time in more than a year – Clinton called the Iranian government "hypocritical" for praising the Arab revolts while crushing its own.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US, goaded by Israel, is grooming the American public for a shooting war with Iran over an absolutely non-issue; that of Iran's nuclear power station ,which all of the IAEA's inspections confirmed as not concealing a weapons program.

US respect for freedom of speech, August 2004

And as for Clinton's remarks in which she "...called the Iranian government "hypocritical" for praising the Arab revolts while crushing its own.", as posted on 16 February, 2011 at:

http://redactednews.blogspot.com/2011/02/at-clinton-speech-veteran-bloodied.html

"At Clinton Speech: Military and CIA Veteran Bloodied, Bruised and Arrested for Standing Silently "

"As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her speech at George Washington University yesterday condemning governments that arrest protestors and do not allow free expression, 71-year-old Ray McGovern was grabbed from the audience in plain view of her by police and an unidentified official in plain clothes, brutalized and left bleeding in jail. She never paused speaking. When Secretary Clinton began her speech, Mr. McGovern remained standing silently in the audience and turned his back. Mr. McGovern, a veteran Army officer who also worked as a C.I.A. analyst for 27 years, was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt.

Blind-sided by security officers who pounced upon him, Mr. McGovern remarked, as he was hauled out the door, "So this is America?" Mr. McGovern is covered with bruises, lacerations and contusions inflicted in the assault"

One wonders how Clinton could possibly use the word "hypocritical" in the context of Iranian government leadership with a straight face.

But then, of course, people who rise to that level of power in the US government have had their conscience surgically removed long before being sworn in, theoretically, to "...protect, uphold and defend the Constitution" when in reality, they are where they are to uphold protect and defend Israel's geopolitical agenda.

And if you don't believe that, why are 2012 GOP hopefuls doing their obligatory tours of Israel right now, like Haley Barbour, and Mike Huckabee?

New Torture Allegations By Protesters In Egypt

US Congress sends Obama Patriot Act extension

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US lawmakers on Thursday sent President Barack Obama legislation to extend controversial counter-terrorism surveillance and search powers enacted in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. The US House of Representatives, following in the Senate's footsteps, voted 279-143 to extend until May 27 three Patriot Act provisions due to expire at month's end.

ISRAEL & PALESTINE: THE MAPS TELL THE TRUE STORY

The truth is that far from being the poor victim it likes to portray itself as, Israel is in fact the most aggressive and belligerent nation in the region, having invaded pretty much everyone it shares a border with. The following maps show what Israel has actually done.

The Revolutionary Rebellion in Egypt

By Fidel Castro February 16,2011 "Granma" -- I said several days ago that the die was cast for Mubarak and that not even Obama could save him.

The world knows what is taking place in the Middle East. The news is circulating at incredible speed. Politicians barely have time to read the cables coming in by the hour. Everyone is aware of the importance of what is occurring there.

After 18 days of harsh battling, the Egyptian people attained an important objective: to defeat the United States' principal ally in the heart of the Arab countries. Mubarak was oppressing and plundering his own people, he was an enemy of the Palestinians and an accomplice of Israel, the sixth nuclear power on the planet, associated with the military NATO group.

Important New Information on Aafia Siddiqui's Case

n March 2003, after visiting her family in Karachi, Pakistan, government Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agents, in collaboration with Washington, abducted her and her three children en route to the airport for a flight to Rawalpindi. Handed to US authorities, she was secretly incarcerated at one or more prisons, including Afghanistan's Bagram for more than five years of brutal torture and unspeakable abuse.

Bogusly charged and convicted, she was guilty only of being Muslim in America at the wrong time. A Pakistani national, she was deeply religious, very small, thoughtful, studious, quiet, polite, shy, soft-spoken, barely noticeable in a gathering, not extremist or fundamentalist, and, of course, no terrorist.

America: Repudiate your $17 trillion of debt

Millions will die, and ten million minds will crack and a hundred million lives will fall apart. The pain and grief for what has happened and the future that has been robbed will be intolerable. And the talking heads go on: The government must cut this, the people must do without that, wages must be cut drastically, benefits must disappear, packages smaller, ingredients more inferior etc. Because the we owe $17 trillion and it has to be paid.

But do we really have to pay Mr. Rothschild and Mr. Rockefeller and Mr. Soros etc …?

If all the $17 trillion were owed just to me, would you still feel obligated to inflict all that damage on so many lives? Or would you repudiate and say, “To hell with you, Dick Eastman”

Because that is exactly what the Federal Reserve did to the US with the connivance of the 1913 Congress.

It was the early hours of the morning in Bahrain when the security forces launched a major operation to clear a camp of protesters in the capital, Manama.

Feeling the squeeze: British workers facing £750 cut in annual salary

The financial crisis is having a direct impact on workers’ pay packets, with figures revealing more than £750 is being slashed from annual incomes.

The Office of National Statistics has revealed that wage growth has slowed to its lowest level since August, with average employees receiving a rise of only 1.8 per cent in the last three months of 2010. But with the cost of living increasing by 5.1 per cent, the average worker is suffering a 3.3 per cent drop in their wages, effectively wiping £782 from their purchasing power.

Petraeus may quit post of commander of US and Nato forces in Afghanistan by year end

General David Petraeus plans to quit his post as commander of US and Nato forces in Afghanistan as a part of changes to be introduced by the Pentagon. Petraeus took over in July and replacing him is a part of' natural rotation', according to the Pentagon.

The Pentagon said General Petraeus had been doing a "brilliant" job, but he had been "going virtually non-stop since 9/11. He can't do it for ever."

There are speculations that his next role may be that of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the post from which Mike Mullen is expected to retire in October.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How ironic that this report comes the day before the following is reported, 17 February, 2011 at:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/7482356/General-David-Petraeus-tipped-as-Republican-2012-presidential-candidate.html

"General David Petraeus tipped as Republican 2012 presidential candidate "

"The shrewd and articulate military commander, credited with turning around the Iraq war, will deliver a speech at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire next week, a traditional staging post in the state where the first presidential primaries are held every four years. Each of the last eight presidents has spoken at the college on their way to victory."

Obama is a politically savvy individual. If it is true that Petraeus is contemplating running as a Republican, the only way to possibly forestall that would be for Obama to nominate him as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. If Petraeus is actually running, look for him to decline the nomination.

Covert United States foreign regime change actions

The United States government has been involved in and assisted in the overthrow of foreign governments (more recently termed regime change) without the overt use of U.S. military force. Often such operations are tasked to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Many of the governments targeted by the US have been democratically elected, rather than authoritarian governments or military dictatorships. In many cases the governments toppled were replaced by dictatorships, sometimes installed with assistance by the U.S.

Bahrain Protests: Police Storm Protest, Army Controls 'Key Parts' Of City

Army patrols and tanks locked down the capital of this tiny Gulf kingdom after riot police swinging clubs and firing tear gas smashed into demonstrators, many of them sleeping, in a pre-dawn assault Thursday that uprooted their protest camp demanding political change. Medical officials said four people were killed.

Hours after the attack on Manama's main Pearl Square, the military announced on state TV that it had "key parts" of the capital under its control and that gatherings were banned.

Webmaster's Commentary: It appears that the Bahraini government may have prevailed; at least, for the moment. But the cost in blood and anger, and the future consequences of these actions, may well have made this a Pyrrhic victory for those in power.

Why isn't Wall Street in Jail?!?

Nobody goes to jail. This is the mantra of the financial-crisis era, one that saw virtually every major bank and financial company on Wall Street embroiled in obscene criminal scandals that impoverished millions and collectively destroyed hundreds of billions, in fact, trillions of dollars of the world's wealth — and nobody went to jail. Nobody, that is, except Bernie Madoff, a flamboyant and pathological celebrity con artist, whose victims happened to be other rich and famous people.

Israeli media pushing unconfirmed report Iranian ships stopped at Suez canal

Officials overseeing the strategic waterway that connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean could not confirm the report, saying only that they have been told that plans by two Iranian naval vessels to cross through the canal had been canceled.

Baghdad Demands U.S. Pay $1 Billion For Damage To City

According to a Reuters report, Iraq's capital wants the United States to apologize and pay $1 billion for the damage done to the city not by bombs but by blast walls and Humvees since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

The city's government issued its demands in a statement on Wednesday that said Baghdad's infrastructure and aesthetics have been seriously damaged by the American military.

"These deficiencies have resulted in violations of state and local foreclosure laws, regulations, or rules and have had an adverse affect on the functioning of the mortgage markets and the U.S. economy as a whole," Walsh said in congressional testimony obtained on Wednesday by Reuters.

Asked if the magnitude of the potential penalties could reach the range of billions or even tens of billions of dollars, Stevens declined to comment.

Climate change scientists call for food rationing to reduce carbon emissions

Leading scientists have called for World War II-style rationing in First World countries to avert catastrophic global warming, in a series of papers published by the United Kingdom's Royal Society.

"The Second World War and the concept of rationing is something we need to seriously consider if we are to address the scale of the problem we face," said Kevin Anderson, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

The Royal Society will be delighted to know that there will soon be few people at work in the UK, and most benefits will be stopped, therefore rationing will not be needed as few people will be able to afford to eat.

Egypt says finds fourth stolen Pharaonic treasure

CAIRO - Egyptian antiquities authorities have recovered a statue of the renegade Pharaoh Akhenaten that was stolen along with eight other items during protests that brought down President Hosni Mubarak.

Minister of State for Antiquities Zahi Hawass said this week thieves had broken into the Egyptian Museum on Jan. 28 and taken eight treasures from the periods of Pharaohs Tutankhamun and Akhenaten but that three of them had been recovered.

A statement from Hawass’ ministry said a protester had found the 7 centimetre (2.8 inch) long limestone statue lying on the ground outside the museum in central Cairo during the demonstrations.

Thousands of Yemenis protest nationwide

SANAA, Yemen — Several thousand Yemeni protesters defied appeals for calm from the military and the country’s most influential cleric and marched through the capital on Thursday, pressing on with their campaign to oust the U.S.-allied president.

The protesters fought off attacks by police and government supporters swinging batons and daggers. Municipal vehicles ferried sticks and stones to the pro-government side, witnesses said.

For seven straight days, protests have hit the capital, Sanaa, and other cities in the Arab world’s poorest country, a mountainous territory wracked by tribal conflicts, armed rebellion and other serious woes.

Bahrain protests a worry for US and its fifth fleet

The US will be watching developments in Bahrain anxiously as it is the headquarters of the US navy's fifth fleet, which operates at least one aircraft carrier in the Gulf at all times, along with an amphibious group of ships with marines aboard.

The fleet's presence is aimed at ensuring the free flow of oil through the Gulf, as well as monitoring Iran and deterring piracy. US navy officials have said there is no sign that crowds intend to direct their hostility toward the roughly 4,200 service members who live and work there.

BUSTED: Fox News Caught Playing Dirty Tricks With Ron Paul CPAC 2011 Victory Video

In case you missed this yesterday...

Fox News deceptively misrepresented Paul’s 2011 CPAC straw poll victory by substituting footage from CPAC 2010, where Mitt Romney supporters had loudly booed the results. Fox, a habitual mouthpiece for the GOP establishment, normally works in clandestine ways to deny the legitimacy of Dr. Ron Paul's candidacy. But this is blatant. No mistake was made in choosing video clips. Fox producers purposely were attempting to discredit Paul through the use of last year's clip.

Shameful and shameless. Keep that in mind the next time you hear fair and balanced.

Four dead, 60 missing in Bahrain

At least four protesters have been killed and about 60 gone missing after Bahraini security forces storm a protest camp in capital Manama. Bahraini police broke up a protest camp in Pearl Square in downtown Manama on Thursday and fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters, a Press TV correspondent quoted an unnamed opposition lawmaker as saying. Bahraini protesters have renamed the square as Tahrir Square, after a square with a similar name in Egypt, which became the center of pro-democracy protests.

Four people were killed during the clashes, bringing to seven the total number of those killed since the protests began on Monday.

Tanks in Bahrain block ambulances

Tanks in the Bahraini capital, Manama, prevent ambulances from taking the victims of clashes to hospitals, as the pro-democracy uprising in the country has entered its fourth day, a report says. The report also added that Bahraini security forces attack and beat medical workers who are helping the victims on Thursday.

Pro-democracy uprising in Bahrain has entered its fourth day, as protesters, inspired by revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, have taken to the streets to protest against the government's dictatorial policies. More than a dozen army tanks and several military ambulances and trucks are seen in a main highway in the central Manama. According to witnesses, the nearby roads have almost been cleared of civilian traffic.

In sharp reversal, U.S. agrees to rebuke Israel in Security Council

The U.S. informed Arab governments Friday that it will support a U.N. Security Council statement reaffirming that the 15-nation body "does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity," a move aimed at avoiding the prospect of having to veto a stronger Palestinian resolution calling the settlements illegal.

But the Palestinian's rejected the American offer following a meeting late Wednesdy of Arab representativs and said it is planning to press for a vote on its resolution Friday, according officials familar with the issue. The decision to reject the American offer raised the prospects that the Obama adminstration may cast its first ever veto in the U.N. Security Council.

Webmaster's Commentary:

THE US GOVERNMENT IS A BUNCH OF PUSSIES!
They are agreeing to vote for this weaker resolution to avoid being ordered by Israel to veto the resolution declaring the settlements illegal.

Egypt military rulers face Iran warship passage

The two navy vessels planned to sail through the canal, one of the world's busiest waterways and a vital source of foreign currency for Egypt's economy, en route to Syria, Israel said, calling it a "provocation" by the Islamic Republic.

Such navy ships have the right to pass under international law, analysts said, but noted the scenario was not the kind of diplomatic challenge the new military rulers would relish.

Egypt was the first Arab country to make peace with Israel in its 1979 treaty and is a pivotal ally of the United States in the Middle East region. The United States and Israel are arch-adversaries of Iran, an ally of Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Everything about this story originates with Israel, including the implication that this is some kind of crisis.

What is Israel trying to do, kick off a war that gains Israel control of the Sinai and the canal?

Police search home of murdered former Pentagon official

Police in Delaware remained tight lipped on Wednesday about why they returned to the home of John P. Wheeler III, the former Pentagon official whose body was found in a landfill on December 31.

Several officers from the Delaware city of Newark, the lead investigative force in the case, went to the New Castle home Tuesday, said Lt. Mark Farrall. He said the search warrant was sealed and declined to provide any details.

At this point there are no suspects in the case and no crime scene, Farrall said. Police were hopeful that a $25,000 reward established by the Wheeler family would result in helpful information. A tip line that police established at the time of the disappearance has been silent, Farrall said.
