Utah: Federal government conflicts intensifying

Utah legislators frustrated with federal control of lands across the state are proposing laws to challenge those policies.

The proposals may look to local law enforcement for support, which some opponents worry could lead to armed conflicts with federal officers.

A plan from Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, would void any federal land designation made without the Legislature's approval. The bill is being reviewed by legislative attorneys.

Access to the disputed lands would be maintained by local sheriffs in whatever manner necessary, Wimmer said.

WILL ISRAEL INVADE THE EGYPTIAN SINAI?

With the Egyptians in the midst of revolution and right now at their most vulnerable in terms of defending themselves against an Israeli strike, the Israelis may well be tempted to retake part of the Sinai in order to create a buffer zone to pre-empt the opening up of the Gaza Strip. This would not only halt the possibility of an increased flow of armaments which the Gazan Palestinians can then use to defend themselves against continued Israeli oppression, but halt the flow of arms into the Gaza altogether. Of course, the Israelis will no doubt be considering many options, but they will also have in minds their long term objectives and that is to ultimately create a Greater Israel.

The coming US Depression has an added dimension: "...a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody's comprehension" which may fuel unprecedented unrest.

People Begin Living Without Electricity and Water in California

Houses everywhere are going vacant. People don't say goodbye, they don't leave a number, they just disappear. With their disappearance we add another vacant house to the street. But families living in housing without utilities is a new sight for me to behold.

The New Light Bulbs Lose a Little Shine

One hitch was the compact-fluorescent burnout rate. When PG&E began its 2006-2008 program, it figured the useful life of each bulb would be 9.4 years. Now, with experience, it has cut the estimate to 6.3 years, which limits the energy savings. Field tests show higher burnout rates in certain locations, such as bathrooms and in recessed lighting. Turning them on and off a lot also appears to impair longevity.

Webmaster's Commentary: Paying more for less; THAT'S the American way!

The Evolving Populist Political Rebellion in the Arab World

Dave Lefcourt OpEd News

What we are witnessing in the Arab world that began with the self immolation of a fruit seller in Tunisia, the subsequent rebellion there which saw the departure of the dictator Ben Ali and his 23 year rule has inspired a populist political rebellion well beyond Tunisia that has connected with and touched a nerve in many (most?)Arab people...

London Police use CS spray on tax protesters

Hundreds of people staged peaceful sit-ins at high street stores around the country as part of the latest UK Uncut day of action, designed to highlight companies it says are avoiding millions of pounds in tax.

In London protesters had successfully closed down Boots in Oxford Street – one of the companies campaigners accuse of tax avoidance – when police tried to arrest a woman for pushing a leaflet through the store's doors. Other demonstrators tried to stop the arrest and at least one police officer used CS spray, which hospitalised three people.

Jed Weightman, one of those who went to hospital, said protesters had joined hands to try and prevent the arrest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.

Turks avenge deadly Israeli raid on the big screen

"Go and show the world what is really the state of Israel," says an Israeli officer named Moshe Ben-Eliezer -- an incarnation of evil -- as he orders the assault on the Mavi Marmara ferry in the film. The May 31 raid on the Turkish vessel claimed the lives of nine Turks, dealt a major blow to once-close Turkish-Israeli ties and triggered a wave of international criticism of the Jewish state.

US ammunition tells its own story in Egypt

Yvonne Ridley reminds us that it is US support, and US politicians putting Israel's interests above those of their own country, that has allowed dictators such as Hosni Mubarak of Egypt to desecrate the Arab world with their existence for so long.
