So like radioactive cesium and iodide - which I discussed yesterday - plutonium doesn't exist in nature in any significant quantity, and so "background radiation" is a meaningless concept.
Plutonium stays radioactive for a long time. Pu-238 has an 88-year half-life, Pu-239 has a 24,000-year half-life, and Pu-240 has a 6,500-year half life.

Here is the relevant portion.

For the purposes of this thought experiment, let us assume that God waved a magic wand and the universe popped into existence from a Big Bang, and that "somehow" the universe escaped from it's own gravity well. With the entire 2.6*1060 mass/energy of the universe confined to that small region, the temperatures and pressures amount to a super-supernova. We already know that in the cataclysm of a supernova, the heavier elements are created. That is where all the heavy elements in your body were created; inside an exploding star. Therefore, in that moment of super-creation called the Big Bang, as the universe started to operate by the rules we know today, the expanding universe should be creating all the known heavy elements.

So, how to explain the Population II stars?

Population II stars are stars with no heavy elements in them. When they explode at the end of their life cycles, heavy elements are created. These are swept up by stars that form afterwards creating Population I stars, usually with planets around them. Population I stars have heavy elements. Population II stars do not.

If the Big Bang had happened, the universe would be filled with heavy elements created in those first few moments the universe started to operate under the rules of physics we know today. There should not be any stars in existence devoid of those heavy elements. And yet there are.

The existence of Population II stars, devoid of heavy elements, directly contradicts the theory of the Big Bang.

Malicous adverts have appeared on the free version of Spotify, as hackers attempted to attack Windows users with the Blackhole exploit kit.

Users did not even have to click through on the ads to be affected, according to Websense, which said the first report it received of a malicious advert appearing on Spotify was from 24 March.

Once users’ systems had connected to an outside IP address, the exploit kit would attempt to exploit a range of vulnerabilities, including a flaw affecting Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

This may yet lead to a meltdown not just in Reactor 1 at Daiichi, but also in six other reactors, including Daiichi No 3, which burns a more hazardous fuel (mixed plutonium and uranium oxides) than most reactors do. Even if there is no meltdown, it is clear from the release of Caesium-137, a product of fission of uranium atoms, that Reactor 1's core has been damaged, and an unspecified quantity of radioactivity released. Reactor 1 has exploded twice and Reactor 3 once, probably from accumulated hydrogen.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano has now admitted that a partial meltdown has taken place at one of the Fukushima Daiichi reactors, and this is a cause of the relatively high levels of radiation escaping from the plant. Critics have been pouncing on the sluggish communications from the government.

Workers trying to prevent a total meltdown at a Japanese nuclear power plant suffered another setback Monday when they found a pool of highly radioactive water leaking from the crippled facility.

Engineers have been battling to control the six-reactor Fukushima complex since it was damaged by a March 11 earthquake and tsunami that also left more than 27,000 people dead or missing across Japan's devastated northeast.

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked the region on Monday, the latest in a series of aftershocks, and officials warned it would trigger a 50-cm (two feet) tsunami wave.

Radiation at the nuclear plant has soared in recent days. Latest readings on Sunday showed contamination 100,000 times normal in water at reactor No. 2 and 1,850 times normal in the nearby sea.

Plutonium Detected In Soil At Fukushima Nuclear Plant

Plutonium has been detected in soil at five locations at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Monday.

The operator of the nuclear complex said that the plutonium is believed to have been discharged from nuclear fuel at the plant, which was damaged by the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

As a result, emergency workers were evacuated from the plant and rushed to safe location. The prospect of a full-core meltdown or an environmental catastrophe of incalculable magnitude now looms larger than ever. The crisis is getting worse.

Highly radioactive water spreads at Japan plant

Highly radioactive water has leaked from a reactor turbine building at a stricken nuclear plant in Japan, the operator said Monday, adding to fears the liquid is seeping into the environment.

The water, found in an underground tunnel linked to the number two reactor at the Fukushima plant, showed a radiation reading of more than 1,000 millisieverts per hour, a Tokyo Electric Power official told reporters.

There is estimated to be several thousand cubic metres of water inside the tunnel.

"We need to check if the water could flow directly into the sea," he said.

Workers discovered new pools of radioactive water leaking from Japan's crippled nuclear complex, officials said Monday, as emergency crews struggled to pump out hundreds of tons of contaminated water and bring the plant back under control.

Officials believe the contaminated water has sent radioactivity levels soaring at the coastal complex and caused more radiation to seep into soil and seawater. Crews also found traces of plutonium in the soil outside of the complex on Monday, but officials insisted there was no threat to public health.

When the bankers can find no new borrowers, the system collapses, as it is collapsing now. From the bankers point of view, this is not a problem. They are already wealthy from this fraud for no more than the cost of the ink and paper used to print their notes, which are not backed up by anything of value. And as the economy collapses, they use more of their worthless notes to buy up what remains of real wealth among the people through foreclosure sales, and gold-buying vulture operations.

But the system perpetuates only as long as the people can be brainwashed into thinking this is the way life is supposed to be, just as previous enslaved populations were taught that divine right, or serfdom, or indentured servitude, was the way life was supposed to be. Each new generation of tyrants must rebrand and re-package the slavery, but in the end, the moment the people realize that it is just another form of enslavement, the process of liberation has begun, as happened in Iceland.

Take a look at where we are in America. Real value-based money has become the crime, while the worthless paper notes produced by the private central bank called the Federal Reserve, originally a death penalty crime under the coinage act of 1792, are the mandated currency. That alone tells you that the system is a fraud and a means of enslavement, when you are not allowed any other form of money but that used by the pyramid scheme!

The Muslim American Society (MAS) has raised concerns, in a written statement, directed to the School Board and the principal of a public educational facility in Ohio about a "anti-Muslim" speaker who will appear at a non-school event Monday evening at Mansfield Senior High School.

The event organized by Mansfield North Central Ohio Tea Party Association includes a presentation entitled "Freedom or Surrender" by Usama Dakdok at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the public high school auditorium. Although it is not being organized or promoted as a school-related function, having this event in a public school creates the perception of official endorsement and will inevitably promote a hostile learning environment for students of diverse faiths, including Muslims.

The Muslim American Society is a strong supporter of the First Amendment right to free speech but when an individual feels compelled to attack the faith of other Americans, there are more appropriate settings that will not violate the school district's stated core belief that 'all children deserve a safe learning environment.

Fliers were posted in the school advertising the event. The fliers called Dakdok a "Muslim evangelist specialist" and included a photograph of him, a short biography and a graphic showing the Statue of Liberty next to an American flag.

MAS, along with its supporters, are disappointed to learn that a high school building is being used to allow anti- Muslim, anti-American rhetoric to be spewed from the stage of the schools' auditorium

MAS is calling on other faith groups, community members, and civil right advocates to call on national Tea Party leaders to repudiate the hate-filled actions of their local representatives.

In a 2010 blog entry on his website, Dakdok wrote: "Know my heart, you can hate Islam but you must love the Muslims. Don't get the two confused, loving someone does not mean you condone the evil they believe in and call it a loving peaceful religion when their book teaches the opposite.

No UN mandate to attack Gaddafi forces: Russia

Russia said on Monday attacks on forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi amounted to intervention in a civil war and were not backed by the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov U.N. resolution authorising no-fly zones.

In the latest Russian criticism of military action by the Western-led coalition, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the resolution passed by the U.N. Security Council on March 17 had the sole aim of protecting Libyan civilians.

"And yet there are reports -- and nobody denies them -- of coalition strikes on columns of Gaddafi's forces, reports about support for actions by the armed insurgents," Lavrov said. "There are clear contradictions here."

We should stop running away from radiation

More than 10,000 people have died in the Japanese tsunami and the survivors are cold and hungry. But the media concentrate on nuclear radiation from which no-one has died - and is unlikely to.

First off, nobody knows who is or is not dying of the radiation. Radiation sickness can take a while to appear, especially if it emerges in the form of a cancer. The people of Iraq did not see the symptoms of their exposure to depleted uranium until the following generation of severely malformed children.

Those Japanese workers sent to the hospital after they walked into that highly radioactive water are alive at the moment, but that hardly guarantees they are going to remain that way, and given that the amounts of radiation coming from those ruined reactors continues to climb, then we cannot know where this will end, let alone predict whether or not anyone will die from this radiation in the coming years.

Plutonium, being an alpha emitter, is very hard to detect and harmless outside the body. But a single particle inhaled into the lungs will remain, constantly irradiating the unprotected tissues, until cancer results. Plutonium can also decay into far more deadly materials after it has been in your soil and water for a while. Plutonium-241 can decay into Americium-241, which is a gamma-ray emitter.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the ongoing conflict in Libya could turn the African country into a “second Iraq” or “another Afghanistan.”

"I'm afraid we could see another Afghanistan or a second Iraq emerging. When western forces entered Afghanistan nearly 10 years ago, people were talking of it being over in days, and people said the same in Iraq. We don't want to see a similar picture in Libya," Erdogan said.

Like the team's response to Three Mile Island, the group of Nevada responders in Japan is a part of the Nuclear Emergency Search Team, operating a key component known as the aerial measurement system.
"They're not very close to the reactors themselves. Their job is to fly the 12-mile evacuation line that's been established for the Japanese people and the 50-mile evacuation zone for the U.S. people to measure and record radiation doses at those distances."
So far, the team has collected and analyzed data from 40 hours of flights and thousands of ground monitoring points.
