Important Account Notice Re: Metals Trading

We wanted to make you aware of some upcoming changes to FOREX.com’s product offering. As a result of the Dodd-Frank Act enacted by US Congress, a new regulation prohibiting US residents from trading over the counter precious metals, including gold and silver, will go into effect on Friday, July 15, 2011.

In conjunction with this new regulation, FOREX.com must discontinue metals trading for US residents on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the close of trading at 5pm ET. As a result, all open metals positions must be closed by July 15, 2011 at 5pm ET.

If I read this correctly, this only affects precious metals contracts on margin/leverage for future delivery (i.e. "Paper" gold/silver) but not coin dealers whose transactions are cash and carry.

I suspect this will drive down the immediate price for gold and silver in order to keep people in the equities market and Federal Reserve Note.

20 Tips For Surviving Economic Meltdown

As difficult as it may be to fathom, the current lousy economy may not be the worst case scenario. All I have to do is look around and be observant to see that there is a strong likelihood that another, more significant economic meltdown is imminent.

Why? Here are some of the reasons:

Why does Britain tolerate its leaders? The power of lies, deception and self-delusion

Christopher King considers the bubble of deception and lies that underpins the British political establishment and the ignorance and self-delusion that sustain public support for this establishment.

”My friends, you have not yet recognized that we are at war within our country. We are living on capital, on the fat accumulated by past generations of inventors, builders and social reformers. It will soon be gone and our war will become exactly like those of Tunisia, Egypt or Syria. Perhaps like Afghanistan. You don’t believe it? Just look at the speed of collapse in Greece.”

”No Nobel Peace Laureate will be able to disguise the guilt if more Israeli hoods batter more human rights workers. No selectively edited whitewash report, with of without endorsement from professors of international law, will be able to conceal the truth this time from the people of the world.”

Ron Paul wins RLC straw poll

As has become typical at GOP cattle calls, Ron Paul captured the presidential straw poll at the Republican Leadership Conference here, easily besting his nearest competitor, Jon Huntsman.

... And, just as they have at recent CPACs, Paul's backers in the crowd here let out loud cheers when the results were announced from the stage while the regular Republicans in the audience booed the Libertarian-leaning Texas congressman's success.

Can you see the bias here? The implication is that Pau''s backers are not "regular Republicans", with the obvoous message that this victory is irrelevant to the process of making sure a "regular Republican" is given the GOP nomination.

Industry lobbyists behind ‘scientific’ claims in IPCC press release

The entire world will soon depend on renewable energy so governments ought to start subsidizing these industries immediately. So said the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in a report released Tuesday. The study’s conclusion was such a blockbuster that the panel issued a press release last month previewing the finding. “Close to 80 percent of the world’s energy supply could be met by renewables by mid-century if backed by the right enabling public policies a new report shows,” it proclaimed.

New LulzSec Evidence: Member Is Counter Intelligence

n a release posted on PasteBin today, new information has come to light about a particular member of the shadowy group known as LulzSecurity which I have been covering in detail as of late.

After the first “just for kicks” hack of the Senate.gov website, I hypothesized that the group could be a government red team. This was reinforced by their DDoS attack on the CIA as well as their release of over 62,000 e-mails and passwords of random everyday people.

This combined with the information contained in the PasteBin, if it is indeed true, make for a pretty damning case. Unfortunately there is not enough proof provided in the PasteBin for me to conclusively say that this is a government red team or that this individual with the handle Nakomis is indeed military counter-intelligence.

When it comes to measuring the combination of unemployment and inflation, it doesn’t get much more miserable than this. At least 15 NATO fuel tankers have been torched in the latest wave of attacks by militants in conflict-riddled Afghanistan. Militants in Afghanistan targeted convoys carrying supplies to NATO troops, killing nine Afghan security guards and torching 15 fuel tankers on Saturday.

Two of the attacks targeted private guards escorting supply trucks to a base for Polish troops in the eastern Ghazni province. A third attack happened along the border between Herat and Farah provinces in the west. Afghan militants say their assaults are in retaliation for non-UN-sanctioned US strikes on Afghanistan's tribal regions.

Cleanup system halted at Fukushima plant

A new system aimed at decontaminating highly radioactive water at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was halted only 5 hours after a full-fledged operation started on Friday night.

The plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company says the suspension may affect the entire cleanup plan.

The new system began operating at around 8PM on Friday to clean the huge amount of radioactive water that had accumulated in the plant and to recycle it to cool the reactors.

However, the operation was manually stopped shortly before 1 AM on Saturday, as the radiation level on the surface of a US-made absorption device reached 4 millisieverts per hour, the level at which it needs to be replaced.

Obviously, there is a lot more radiation down there than expected (or we have been told).l Equally obviously, the equipment supplied by the American company was designed to deal with the radiation levels announced in the media, rather than with the reality of the situation on the ground.

So how much time and money has been wasted building a system which a priori was not going to b able to deal with the situation? Was this entire water cleaner merely a public relations exercises, a "Hey, at least we are doing something " dance in the dark?

Water cleanup system shut down at Japan nuke plant

Private Prisons and the American Police State

S. Paul Forrest
Activist Post

In the last few decades, the population of our national prisons has nearly tripled. This phenomenon can be attributed to many factors ranging from the increasing economic insecurity to the War on Drugs. Statistics tell us that 1 in 18 American men are now incarcerated or being monitored.

Although this number could be reasonably justified as a reflection of our social morality breakdown; America still leads the world in per capita imprisonment, and the privatization of the our corrections system calls into question the motives behind tougher sentencing and the ever-increasing American police state...

File-Sharers An Easy Prey To Anti-Piracy Lawyers

In the last year thousands of alleged copyright infringers have fallen prey to the dubious litigation practices of a handful of lawyers. Many of the accused are not guilty, but the cleverly constructed scheme leads them to believe that they have no other option than to pay up. Rising water, falling journalism

Virtually every article about the flooding mentions that the Fort Calhoun plant was shut down on April 9. On May 27, the Omaha World-Herald reported, "The Omaha Public Power District said its nuclear plant at Fort Calhoun, which is shut down for maintenance, is safe from flooding." The implication is that being shut down makes a plant safe. But as the ongoing crisis in Fukushima demonstrates, nuclear fuel remains hot long after a reactor is shut down. When Fort Calhoun is shut down for maintenance and refueling, only one-third of the fuel in the reactor core is removed. Besides the hot fuel remaining in the core, there is even more fuel stored in the spent-fuel pool, which is not shut down.

Hawaii’s largest bank could be snared by Greek financial crisis

Moody’s rating service is considering lowering the credit ratings of First Hawaiian Bank, the state’s largest financial institution, due to reverberations of the Greek debt crisis.

FHB and its sister bank, Bancwest, are owned by Bancwest Corporation. It, in turn, is a subsidiary of BNP Paribas, one of three large French banks most heavily impacted by the crisis in Greece.

Although FHB has strong ratings, Moody’s is reviewing those credit ratings because of concerns that losses on Greek investments could would make it more difficult for PNP Paribas to backstop its subsidiaries.

Three hundred miles southwest of Fukushima, at a nuclear reactor perched on the slopes of this rustic peninsula, engineers are engaged in another precarious struggle.

The Monju prototype fast-breeder reactor — a long-troubled national project — has been in a precarious state of shutdown since a 3.3-ton device crashed into the reactor’s inner vessel, cutting off access to the plutonium and uranium fuel rods at its core.

Engineers have tried repeatedly since the accident last August to recover the device, which appears to have gotten stuck. They will make another attempt as early as next week.

    Beware of Greeks Bearing Bonds

As Wall Street hangs on the question “Will Greece default?,” the author heads for riot-stricken Athens, and for the mysterious Vatopaidi monastery, which brought down the last government, laying bare the country’s economic insanity. But beyond a $1.2 trillion debt (roughly a quarter-million dollars for each working adult), there is a more frightening deficit. After systematically looting their own treasury, in a breathtaking binge of tax evasion, bribery, and creative accounting spurred on by Goldman Sachs, Greeks are sure of one thing: they can’t trust their fellow Greeks.

A JERUSALEM rabbinical court has condemned to death by stoning a dog it suspects is the reincarnation of a secular lawyer who insulted the court's judges 20 years ago.

Struggling Mom Sells Obama Letter To Keep House

Destiny Mathis wrote to President Obama after she lost her job last year because of complications with her pregnancy. She’d been the top of her college class and had years of work under her belt as a surgical technologist, but after months of unemployment she was afraid that she and her three children were about to become victims of the economy.

Now she’s selling her handwritten letter from the President on an auction website in the hopes that the money she earns from the sale will help her keep her home. The Mathis family is weeks away from eviction, a future that Destiny foresaw in her letter to the president.

Shareholders to Caterpillar: ‘our product has become Israel’s weapon of choice for ethnic cleansing and potentially even war crimes’

Amnesty International says, and I quote:

House demolitions usually are carried out without warning, often at night, and the occupants are given little or no time to leave their homes. Often the only warning they get is the rumbling of the Israeli army’s Caterpillar bulldozers. They barely have time to flee as the bulldozers tear down the walls of their homes.
Sometimes they are buried alive under the rubble.

An Israeli newspaper reported that an Israeli army D9 dozer operator said, and I quote:

GILAD ATZMON: JEWS & THEIR SELF INTEREST-AN INTERVIEW WITH PHILIP WEISS

Weiss had the following to say on the matter: “I believe all people act out of self-interest. And Jews who define themselves at some level as Jews -- like myself for instance -- are concerned with a Jewish self-interest. Which in my case is: an end to Zionism. A theory of political life based on altruism or concern for victims purely is doomed to fail.”

Openly and bluntly, Weiss confirmed what many of us have been saying for a very long time: it is not solely ‘altruism’ or concern for Palestinians victims that motivates some of the most prominent Jewish campaigners and organisations, but it is also, as Weiss freely admits, ‘Jewish self-interest.’

I do not find this as shocking as Gilad Atzmon does, and while I respect altruism and genuine concern for Palestine, I would be perfectly fine if the modern state of Palestine comes into existence because Israel sees it in their self interest to allow it to happen.

Because in the end, it still happens.

South Korean troops have fired at a passenger airliner flying from China with 119 people on board after mistaking it for a North Korean aircraft, South Korean military and aviation officials say.

"The firing continued about 10 minutes but the plane was too far off the rifle's range and it did not receive any damage," the South's Yonhap news agency quoted a Marine Corps official as saying.

A mixture of arrogance, over-confidence, and staggering ineptitude by the Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives [ATF] was outlined in a 51-page investigation by two Republican members of a House panel charged with getting to the bottom of what went wrong during a two-year operation called "Fast and Furious".

What went wrong was: an unconstitutional agency undertook an unconstitutional action and it went all pear shaped... big surprise. This is why we have a Constitution to begin with, to control the actions of our government. When the government creates agencies that operate outside of constitutional restrictions, The People are endangered in a myriad of different ways.

Obama 'overruled lawyers' in Libya war debate

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President Barack Obama overruled two senior government lawyers in deciding that he had the authority to continue US military operations in Libya without Congressional approval, The New York Times has reported.

In reaching his conclusion Obama rejected the opinions of Jeh Johnson, the Pentagon general counsel, and Caroline Krass, the acting head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, The Times reported late Friday, citing unnamed officials familiar with the deliberations.

Johnson and Krass both told the White House they believed that US military activity in the NATO-led air war over Libya amounted to "hostilities." ...

Syrian tanks enter village near Turkey border

DAMASCUS (AFP) - Army tanks on Saturday entered a village bordering Turkey, where 10,000 Syrians have sought refuge, an activist said, as Washington warned Damascus over its "continued brutality" against protesters.

With the deadly revolt now in its fourth month, Britain urged its nationals to leave Syria "now" by commercial means, warning that its embassy in Damascus was unlikely to be able to help them in the event of a further deterioration.

As many as 19 people were killed in protests around the country on Friday, the Local Coordination Committee of anti-government activists said, although it added that it had collected only 12 names so far...

US 'holding talks with Taliban': Karzai

KABUL (AFP) - The United States is holding talks with the Taliban, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Saturday, in the first official confirmation of such contacts after nearly ten years of war.

Although diplomats and officials say the talks are at a very early stage, Karzai's remarks highlight the increasing focus on finding a political settlement in Afghanistan as foreign combat troops prepare to pull out by 2014.

"Talks with the Taliban have started... the talks are going on well," Karzai said, addressing a conference in Kabul...

The Destabilization of Syria and the Broader Middle East War

The Destabilization of Syria and the Broader Middle East War

General Wesley Clark states the following:

"As I went back through the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.

...He said it with reproach--with disbelief, almost--at the breadth of the vision. I moved the conversation away, for this was not something I wanted to hear. And it was not something I wanted to see moving forward, either. ...I left the Pentagon that afternoon deeply concerned."

Rep. King Says Stage Set To Investigate Pigford…
"How is it possible that Secretary Vilsack can identify 94,000 ‘victims’ of USDA discrimination against black farmers from a total universe of only 18,000 black farmers? The original USDA estimate predicted that 3,000 of 18,000 black farmers would file a discrimination claim. Now, Tom Vilsack and Eric Holder have taken it upon themselves to negotiate a $1.15 billion agreement in Pigford II with the anonymous representatives of a universe of anonymous claimants that has swelled to 94,000. When added to the tab of the Pigford I settlement, this new $1.15 billion agreement brings the total taxpayer funded Pigford payout to $2.3 billion."

Babeu: Obama has failed to protect border
    Posted: May 26, 2011
President Obama led us to believe he would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We're no closer to leaving than when he made these false promises. He bombs Libya for humanitarian reasons and yet ignores the outcry of neighboring Mexico in their war against the drug cartels, which have claimed over 35,000 lives and nearly toppled their government. Mexico is America's second largest trading partner and we share nearly 2,000 miles of porous border, which presents a far graver national security threat than anything we face in the middle east.
Mexico is not our enemy. The cartels are the enemy of Mexico and America. They have brought their violence here to America. Local Sheriffs can't fight them alone.

Transit cop pepper-sprayed anti-war protesters on the steps of a downtown bank. Because the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's Police Department does not have an internal affairs division (I guess their cops have never screwed up before), they hired a state attorney, an NFTA bureaucrat and an account to undertake the "independent" review.
